MGPalaeo is launching a series of core workshops that will explore a variety of depositional environments in several basins of Western Australia.

During each core workshop participants will have the chance to compare different types of depositional environments in core and to make their own observations, core descriptions and notes. Additionally, every participant will receive a handout booklet containing wireline log profiles and cored intervals for each of the wells, and new sedimentological core descriptions of two key wells, integrating sedimentological observations and depositional facies with porosity/permeability measurements.

The first hands-on core workshop will occur over two days and focus on various marine and marginal marine incursions over different stratigraphic intervals of the Mungaroo Formation from wells including Dino North 1, Yodel 2, Noblige 2, Satyr 2 and selected Gorgon cores.

Date: 29th and 30th November 2016
Time: 8:00am to 4:00pm
Venue: Core Library DMP, 37 Harris Street, Carlisle
Registration closes 18th November 2016

Sedimentological observations from core will be integrated with trace fossil analysis (ichnology) and palynological observations utilizing variations in microplankton abundance. Palynological slides from selected key horizons will also be available for viewing under the microscope to integrate the palynology with observations from ichnology and sedimentology.
