MGPalaeo offers a specialized maceration technique for extracting palynomorphs from a wide variety of coal samples directly, rather than on the sediments associated with the coal.
Palynological analysis of coal can help to reduce exploration costs by offering the following benefits:
- Age dating and stratigraphic correlation between seams with a higher degree of accuracy. Standard procedures involve dating the sediments above/below the seams, which is far from accurate.
- More detailed identification of liptinitic constituents can be made when combined with standard petrographic studies
- Better determination of palynofacies and palaeoenvironmental interpretations
- Can provide key insights into CSG reservoir characterisation, mapping, and modelling.
MGPalaeo has worked on a wide variety of coals from across Australia, and can offer either a cheaper ‘quick-look’ alternative or a more standard high resolution palynological analysis. Quick-look palynology is useful for determining the broad age (i.e., Cenozoic vs Palaeozoic), while high resolution palynology allows for a more precise age to be assigned.
Working closely with our experienced laboratory staff, we can make the necessary running modifications to the processing to ensure the best results possible for all coal samples. This is an important step, as not all coals react the same way to the same processing techniques.
