New Service Alert: Borehole Image Log Analysis Now at MGPalaeo

We have some exciting news to share: MGPalaeo has expanded our subsurface interpretation capability with the addition of borehole image log analysis.

This service is available both as a standalone offering and as part of an integrated workflow alongside our expanded core logging and biostratigraphic services to produce more robust geological outcomes.

Borehole image logs provide high-resolution, two-dimensional images of the borehole wall, capturing geological features at a scale not available in conventional wireline datasets. These data are routinely used to identify fractures, faults, bedding orientation, and structural features, as well as to support sedimentological interpretation and depositional analysis.

Integration is Key

The real value of image logs is realised when they are integrated with other datasets.

At MGPalaeo, this integration is central to how the service is delivered. By combining borehole image analysis with core logging, sedimentology, and biostratigraphy, we can provide:

  • Borehole image analysis (sedimentological + structural)
  • Core logging and sedimentological description
  • Biostratigraphic and sequence stratigraphic interpretation

This integrated approach reduces the disconnect that often exists between disciplines, particularly when image logs, core data, and stratigraphy are interpreted in isolation.

Introducing Zahra Mossadegh

Joining MGPalaeo as our borehole image log specialist is Dr. Zahra Mossadegh, who brings over 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and more than a decade of dedicated borehole image interpretation expertise.

Zahra holds MSc and PhD degrees in geology, with specialisations in carbonate and evaporite sedimentary systems and foraminiferal biostratigraphy. Her skillset spans core descriptions, petrography, petrophysics, facies analysis, structural interpretation, and basin-scale geological synthesis, applied across geological successions from the Ordovician to the Cenozoic.

What This Means for You

When expertly interpreted, image logs bridge the gap between core-scale observations and log-scale trends, giving you confidence in intervals where core is limited or absent, and maximising the value of your existing wireline datasets.

We’d love to discuss how our expanded capabilities can support your next project, whether that’s a standalone image log study, a combined image log and core description programme, or a fully integrated biostratigraphic and sedimentological interpretation.
