From a single well to every single well!
The most up-to-date interpretation of stratigraphical data that exists, covering almost 2,000 wells using one consistent zonation scheme (MGP 2014).

Originally commissioned by Carnarvon Petroleum over a 12 month period between 2016-2017, this ground-breaking database provides the latest interpretation of all available open-file and in-house stratigraphical data from all exploration wells across the Carnarvon, Roebuck, Browse, and Bonaparte Basins.
Since then, we have been expanding our database to encompass further basins across Australia and Papua New Guinea.
“An innovative stratigraphic database that gives the geoscientist the competitive advantage to identify new hydrocarbon accumulations and high grade prospective exploration acreage.” [Carnarvon Petroleum, 2016]
The database is available via a subscription service, with a range of licensing options available.
Every exploration well at your fingertips, available in an easy to use format:
- biostratigraphy (reinterpreted/updated)
- standardized lithostratigraphy
- regional sequence stratigraphic framework
- wireline logs (edited and spliced)
- Geochemistry, drilling data, and more
The data for each well has been tested through 2D and 3D seismic mapping to ensure accuracy.
All new explorations wells will be added as soon as they become open-file.
The database is dynamic, meaning we will be constantly reviewing and refining it (i.e. the incorporation of high resolution localized palynological events to improve correlations).
Additional data (checkshots, bit records, mud properties, casing points, cores, open-file micropalaeontology, etc) are also being added to the database.
New stratigraphic charts are available for each basin across the North West Shelf, incorporating the published Santos and Woodside sequences. These charts are available for purchase as standalone items, as well as included as part of the database.
The database builds on MGPalaeo’s extensive experience and paves the way towards a better understanding of the regional geology and prospectivity of not just the North West Shelf, but other basins across Australia.
